Breeding dachshunds is a process of producing standard or miniature dachshund puppies to be sold for a profit.  Modern times are producing more dachshunds than owners willing to share their homes.  There are dachshund owners to spend a large amount of money to obtain a pure breed dachshund and believe if they just had a few dachshund litters that they would make thousands of dollars without much effort. 

The most important thing for you to remember is a pure bred dachshund comes with a high price tag because a pure bred dachshund is not your average run of the mill dachshund.  Pure bred dachshunds are bred to the highest AKC standards.  A pure breed dachshund is bred in a high quality enviroment with the best of care, nutrition and socialization.  None of these traits come without a high cost and trying to do it just for the money only result in producing dachshund puppies that are water downed and not wanted.  

Dachshund Puppy Mills

Modern day breeding facilities are referred to as dachshund puppy mills where a dachshund typically endure sub standard care and are exposed to questionable breeding practices.  What this means for an inexperienced pet store customer is that many may wind up purchasing a dachshund that suffers from a variety of health problems including contagious diseases and genetic disorders.  Avoid a dachshund puppy mill at all costs.
