Dachshund Races

Dachshund Races

The idea of running dachshunds around a racetrack has become very controversial considering the well know back issues that surrond the hound dog breed.  Modern societies need to sport and competition has led to a new breed of dachshund races that have become regular events at many dog tracks around the country.

Some people view the dachshund racing contest as just entertaining diversions that were born out of staged benefits for charities and other causes.  Spectarors are fasinated by the miniature dachshunds flexing their backs, much like an inchworm to amazing speeds.

Other opponents see a more ominous side to the dachshund racing contests with worry that extended dachshund racing careers cause cause long term if not fatal damage to the dachshunds already fragile and vulverable back.  Critics complain the dachshund racing will eventually be viewed by profit oriented people as an opportunity to deliberately breed "racing" dachshunds.  Not only does this bring potential harm to the wiener dog races and the dachshunds that race, but it also would add more dachshunds to an already overpopulated soceity.  An example would be the thousands of facing greyhounds who are destroyed yearly as evidence in the sport of dachshund racing is anthing but fun and games.  Dachshund races for charity is one thing, dachshund racing for sport is another.
