Dachshund Temperament

Dachshund Temperament

The dachshund temperament can vary from being nice to serious depending on many different factors.   For the most part, a standard or miniature dachshund is affectionate, loyal and lovable unless they have been mistreated or mis-trained a any point in their early childhood.  Dachshunds by nature truly enjoy the company of other dachshunds and humans.  Some dachshunds love just being in the same room and other prefer to be in your lap all the time.

Dachshunds are generally great with children within their own family, but be cautious and be careful with children from other families as a dachshund can sometimes be jealous.  A dachshund usually gets along well with other pets as long as they are well socialized at an early age.  Beware that a dachshund can become irritable and jealous at times increasing the risk being snapped at or even bite if feeling threatened.  Most dachshunds are reserved around a stanger and tend to bark at a passerby.
